B.K.S. Iyengar

Welcome

Welcome to the website of Judy Waldman, Level 3 Iyengar Yoga teacher, a passionate practitioner of Iyengar Yoga for over 25 years and teaching since 2007. She holds Introductory, Beginners, General, Intermediate and private classes online and in person, including a face to face class in Islington. on Saturday mornings. Judy’s teaching is encouraging and clear with instructions tailored to each individual student's needs and abilities. She has a home studio for 1:1 or 2:1 sessions.

The Iyengar Yoga Method

The Iyengar Yoga method is structured and progressive, and designed to gradually relax and lengthen muscles with awareness, so you work safely within your limits. BKS Iyengar introduced the use of props such as blocks belts, bolsters or chairs, making the practise accessible to everyone, regardless of ability, age, size or gender. Quality of movement is prioritised over quantity. Its focus on alignment and attention to detail encourages individual progress as students learn to trust their inner experience. Sequences are varied so no two classes are the same. Different groups of poses are chosen to vary aspects of the practice.

Classes regularly provide new and challenging insights, in our minds as well as in our bodies. When are in a posture, called asana that we previously thought impossible, we may feel a release of tension and feel freer within ourselves. Based on the 8 limbs of yoga, it teaches us to live responsibly with awareness, integrity  and compassion.Regular yoga practise not only creates stamina, strength and suppleness, a sense of lightness and emotional well being.

Self discovery, harmony and joy

Yoga is not just a physical practise but a holistic connection between the body, mind and breath. Yoga can help you to face life’s challenges by bringing body and mind to a place of calm and quiet. It can help us to deal with life creatively.  The yoga mat can be like a magic carpet bringing one to greater levels of self discovery, harmony and joy. Therein lies the transformation.

Yoga and Ageing

There are numerous studies showing how the regular practise of yoga has multiple benefits for mental and physical health, immunity, cognition, balance and longevity. Having begun yoga as a fairly stiff person Judy realised that the practise continues to guide her continuously through new territory. She enjoys teaching her students as their practise matures along with their age, as they focus more on the authenticity of their experience. Iyengar Yoga is the systematic intelligence of mind and body. It enables us to be more creative in how we move, feel and experience life on and off the mat.. It teaches us how to age well, with a sense of adventure and discovery.
